Have you seen this article by Ann Marie Imbornoni? It's titled Leap Year Explained: 2008 is no common year. You can view it at http://www.infoplease.com/spot/leapyear1.html. It explains how leap years evolved and what determines if a year will be a leap year. I previously thought leap years automatically occurred every 4 years, but if you read the article, you will find out this is not always the case!
