Anger Management Anyone?

Schools in the Palatine-based Elementary District 15 want to help parents with anger management.  In an article on chicagotribune.com we find schools wanting to help parents deal with tempers at home so that their children can learn how to approach their anger in a reasonable manner.

Tackling the touchy subject with a series of free one-hour monthly seminars, officials hope to prevent lost tempers at home from finding their way onto the campus.

If there's a lot of anger within a family, that often trickles down to the school environment," said Don Sommerville, a social worker at Conyers Learning Academy in Rolling Meadows, which will host the seminars.  "It affects how students interact with their peers, how well they're doing in class and their self-esteem."

Bravo for any school willing to deal with the problem of anger management.  Everyone knows that it is difficult to shake off angry family moments and go about your everyday business.  More than once I have had parents come to school and give their children hugs because the day had started badly.  With the stress associated with our busy lifestyles, most of us could use a few helpful hints on healthy approaches to controlling tempers.  Let's hope they address the "silent treatment".  It can be as damaging as yelling.
