My advice to new teachers is always, "Never let them see you mad." New technology is taking this to a new level. Students are capturing angry teachers at their worst moments and putting them on YouTube. I remember one incident in a computer lab when I really got mad. Students weren't listening to instructions, and the computers were responding badly. The computers were old and on a very slow network. Everyone was asking for help at once, and I admit I was frustrated. When I raised my voice, the looks on the students' faces could have made a Mastercard commercial. They absolutely loved it! Of course, this made me angrier. Thank goodness cell phones had not been invented!
This all leads up to students capturing teachers in academy award performances. Who knows? Maybe the YouTube videos will propel these teachers to stardom, and we will see them on Jay Leno. Stranger things have happened.
The article blogged on edweek.org goes on to say that you can also see a few inspirational teaching videos on YouTube, but there aren't nearly as many as the "angry teacher" moments. After all, they're "priceless".
