i dunno. one the reasons to be a grown up is no one tells you how to dress. not that you shouldn't know how to dress appropriately for the job...what is to stop someone from wearing flip-flops or trainers or raggy jeans that can all be seen under the robe? also, um, anyone ever see a film/tv whatever where teachers wearing robes get made fun off? it's not pretty and the teacher looks even more foolish with the robes flapping and whatnot. now if we ALL--students, admin, faculty--wore them, that might be ok. but not really. then again, i teach in CA. CA has no sense of style, we wear open toed shoes to everything and are extremely laid back in dress across the board--if you believe the hype.
