10 Things Technology Can't Help You With

    1. Walking around the classroom - unless you're better wired than I am, it tends to keep you tethered in 1 place.
    2. Poor planning - shows up even worse when you add technology.
    3. Infrastructure inadequacies - even more important when tech is in the mix.
    4. Makes it even harder for mediocre administrators to tell who's doing a good job.  They're easily snowed by PowerPoint(less).
    5. Takes even more after-school time to learn (in addition to all the grading, meetings, paperwork, etc.).
    6. When it fails, it really screws up your day.
    7. Another darn thing to lock up - I'm running out of places to put stuff.
    8. Creates additional reasons for faculty divisiveness - the SmartBoard Haves vs. the Have-Nots.
    9. Administration never sets aside money for replacement batteries - if you want it to work, you end up buying them yourself.
    10. Gives you another reason to be locked into that job/school/district.

Number six is right on target.  If the technology doesn't work, you have to have a back up plan.  My computer and camera (still in New Jersey for repairs) went out in the same week.  Many times when I was teaching, the network was down, and I had to go to Plan B.
