I am handling two grades seated in one room- grades one and two. I am in this situation for five years. Dealing and teaching two grades at a time is not very easy task. There are 14 pupils in grade two and 25 pupils in grade one.
Last September 25, 2008 in the morning, I taught grade one pupils the basic sight words. While, the grade two pupils worked on their activity books. My grade one pupils are not really good in reading. I warned my pupils that whoever can’t perfectly read the words can’t take a recess. I was surprised, one pupil cried and ran out of the room with his right hand placed on his stomach. I asked his brother, a grade two pupil, “Have you two taken your breakfast?” The boy answered, “No, ma’am.”
