...to GLBTQII teachings in the classroom.  Can students handle it?  Can parents?  What about teachers?

Should students be taught from early on, or does this subject take a certain level of maturity?

How would one approach such a subject/lesson?  Has anyone taught gender issues in their classroom before, are currently doing so?

Do tell!

i teach 7&8th grades Lang arts and social studies, so while i am not the science teacher(where health ed is generally addressed), i address issues as they come up in class or in general conversation. i don't have any problem doing it, b/c A) well, no one else is discussing it with some of them and B) i am located in the SFBay Area. i don't know that GLBQQT should be part of the curriculum for students below 6th grade unless it is somehow brought up in student life. 6th grade and up, well, that's when most of us start to go through puberty and if nothing else, GLBQQT may be something they have started to recognize in life if not in themselves. i always tell my kids they don't have to like it(whatever it is) but you don't get to treat someone like dirt just b/c they are different, which applies across the board in life, really.
