Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Tangrams to the rescue!

I spent hours drawing and cutting out tangrams from tagboard last night.  The kids are having a blast.  We talked about the math part of it and Geometry.  We talked about the spacial part and now they are trying to create shapes out of them.  It is a lot harder than they thought.  I have one VERY spacial student and he is having a blast.  He is always the first one done.  He can sit and create other shapes on his own.  They think they are playing a game right now.  Tangrams stretch the visual imagination, make them organize their thoughts and use visual skills.

I love tangrams.  It sounds like all of your extra work was worth it.  Maybe you can have them laminated and use them again next year.

About MysteryTeacher

I am 53 years old and have been teaching for 20 years this year. I have two daughters and two grandaughters and two son-in-laws, all of whom I adore. I love to travel with friends but I am now saving for retirement in about 14 years. I am becoming technologically educated. Since digital is the 21st century than I believe that teachers should too. We need to be educated enough to understand our students. I have a teaching degree, a masters degree, an ESL endorsement and a Gifted endorsement.
