Mysterious Teaching

Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Why I am positive! (positive I will hate her before the year is over.)

One of my new teachers is the most negative person I have ever come across.  She talks under her breath and complains about everything.  I have not been around anyone so negative since I was married.  I have been single for 27 years.  I don't quite understand why a new teacher would not even be willing to give the new job a positive chance.

However, it has sure changed my attitude.  I even sat through the most boring meeting on the planet this morning.  And because she was sitting with me complaining, I actually sat up and listened to everything the speaker had to say as if it was the most interesting thing ever.  I did not make a comment (I usually do).  I did not doodle, fidgit, or move except to go to the bathroom.  I paid attention.  I admit now that I didn't really hear what was being said.  But everyone around me thought I was listening with my full attention.

I have decided to try to say only positive things around this teacher.  I will never be negative around her.  I will rise above this.  In the end, if it doesn't change...then I will hate her.  But at least I gave her a chance.

oof! that's rough. i too would question what she was doing there.

i don't think you should set it in such black and white terms for yourself--never, only--b/c it's like setting yourself up for failure from the start as well. maybe gar-un-tee yourself to say 10 positives for every negative that gets in:)

She sounds awful!!!  Why did she even choose teaching if she is so miserable?  Also...when you're the newbie, shouldn't you be lovely and pleasant to everyone?

Good luck!!

It's strange how forcing ourselves to see things positively ends up making us feel better. It gives us more peace. Negative people live lives of turmoil beyond what anyone needs to experience.

I recently made the decision to drive the speed limit or less most of the time I drive. There is something to be said for the incredible increase in peace that such a simple choice can bring to your life. I hope your positive choice has the same effect for you. :)

When I drive the speed limit, I become more stressed because people are honking and making a big deal about passing me.:) It is much better to try to stay positive.  Sometimes I think people just get in the habit of being negative and need to bust out of that behavior.

About MysteryTeacher

I am 53 years old and have been teaching for 20 years this year. I have two daughters and two grandaughters and two son-in-laws, all of whom I adore. I love to travel with friends but I am now saving for retirement in about 14 years. I am becoming technologically educated. Since digital is the 21st century than I believe that teachers should too. We need to be educated enough to understand our students. I have a teaching degree, a masters degree, an ESL endorsement and a Gifted endorsement.
