I have just completed my second week with the kids and 110 degree temps. I have duty before school for 15 minutes and after school bus duty for 20 minutes. It is hotter than hades here. However, my class is great! I am down to 28 students! Many of them are absolutely adorable. I still like the stinkers too. However, one was suspended for 2 days this morning for hitting another kid in the bathroom. Hmmm...I wonder what his year is going to be like.
I started with the kids in rows but had to move them into pods because there isn't enough room in the classroom to walk around in. I couldn't even get between the rows to help the kids. Even the kids with their tiny bodies couldn't always get down the rows. It was noisy today so I had to crack down. I don't always want a quiet classroom, but some kids need it to do their work.
My team is working out fantastic. We are using each other to get things done. I hope and pray that it ends that way in May.
My boss put me in charge of after school bus duty because she said I was better able to get the kids in control than anyone she ever met. I think that means I can yell, I mean talk, louder than many people. However, my feet almost burn in the sun each day. I keep trying different shoes but the results are the same. I wonder if it is the black top that I have to stand on while directing the kids to WALK to the buses in 110 degrees.
I don't think I will mind the duty so much when it cools off. Does anyone have any idea when that might be? I come in from duty totally wet.
