Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

On your own time...

How come we put up with doing so much on our "own" time.  We have a meeting after school-after bus duty and I know it won't end by 3:00.  That is when we are off the clock.  Plus, I think of all the planning, grading, creating, coloring, drawing, and purchasing I do for my class on my own time.  Do other businesses expect their employees to work off the clock?  And, YES, we had to punch in and out every day.  The new super got rid of that for teachers.

We also have a lot of EVENING events that I have to just stay at school for.  It is too far to go home and come back for.  It can get really boring too.  I just wonder if others have the same problem.

On curriculum night, 4th and 5th grades were not supposed to present until 6:30!  I turned my lights out and locked the door so parents wouldn't just wander in and talk.  Sometimes it just gets to be too much.  Everyone else left school and I didn't want to fend parents off for them.  However, they knocked and knocked on my door until I let them in.  They had seem me earlier go into my room.

Why don't they give us "comp" Time for these late nights?  Why do hourly employees get it and we don't?  We work our buns off (I wish that were true) and get no reward time for it.  Sad,  So Sad...
