Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Reading Intervention time

We have 35 minutes of reading intervention time each day.  I ended up with all the 4th grade students who are at or above grade level benchmark.  I have 56 students in my class at that time.  They are all over the place on the floors and chairs and walls.  They are a really fantastic group of kids but there are just too many of them for one room.

Today, because they have been so good reading for the last few weeks, we are doing a Read-n-Munch.  They brought healthy snacks, pillows, blankets and books.  You should see my floors.  Hardly anyone chose to sit in a chair.  they are spread out across the floor like sardines.  I would have thought they would be uncomfortable and crowded but they love it.  They just snack and read.

The strategic group at 4th grade has about 30 kids and we have two intensive groups that have about 10 each.  They need the most personal attention anyway.  I am hoping to work on instilling a love of reading for pleasure in this group.  They have the skills, but a lot of them don't "enjoy" it.  I will see what I can do.

About MysteryTeacher

I am 53 years old and have been teaching for 20 years this year. I have two daughters and two grandaughters and two son-in-laws, all of whom I adore. I love to travel with friends but I am now saving for retirement in about 14 years. I am becoming technologically educated. Since digital is the 21st century than I believe that teachers should too. We need to be educated enough to understand our students. I have a teaching degree, a masters degree, an ESL endorsement and a Gifted endorsement.
