Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Monkey Poop is picking nits!

I mean, really!  She went home yesterday with HEADLICE!!   It was so creepy that when I went to the doctor for my allergies, I had them check my head.  I am clean.

Poor MP!  Does she know what she is in for?  It takes a lot of money to clean the house, bedding, pillows, carpet, animals, clothes, and the people in the home.  It takes a lot of time too.

My youngest daughter came home with a note once  that our babysitter found lice on her son and even though I checked and found nothing, I did the entire house.  It was expensive and time consuming.

Now I realize that you can get lice from many sources; students, neighbors, boyfriends, etc.  It isn't a shameful thing to get lice.  The shameful thing is to not get rid of it and pass it on to others.  That is what my venerable Mother used to say.

I grew up on an Indian Reservation.  My Father worked for the BIA and my Mom was a teacher.  When we moved there in 57, the Indians were still living in Wikiups and sleeping on the dirt.  They had head lice like you wouldn't believe.  My Mom cut our hair into Pixies and kept it short for years.  As the Native Americans gradually moved into homes, the problem was reduced.  So, by Junior High, I started letting my hair grow.  It was an interesting childhood to say the least.

It always seems like head lice prefer the people with the thickest hair.  I know what you mean about getting rid of them.  They are so yucky.  Every time a student had them, my head would itch for days.  Just the thought of them drove me nuts.  Hanging coats in cubbies seemed to cause the biggest problem.  Poor Monkey Poop.
