Mysterious Teaching

Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Regarding the Worst Teacher...

Well, she didn't come in and take her student out.  NOOOOooooo! She called the school on Monday damanding to know why didn't send a withdrawal slip home with him.

Her words to me were, "I am coming by after school today to withdraw him."  I figured she meant it. We don't send withdrawal slips home with kids.  Their parents have to come into the office to withdraw them.

I was even nice to him all day long so he hopefully would have no tales to tell.  At the end of the day, I told him to leave all his materials that belonged to the school and take his personal things.  I did not tell him why.  That is his Mom's job.  Interesting that she called demanding to know why I didn't send a withdrawal.  Who is she kidding?  I don't want him out of my class.  He is a very nice boy.  She is the nut.

I really feel sorry for that lady's son.  I took over a job for a math teacher one year and had a parent complain to the principal that I wasn't challenging enough.  I had only been on the job for two weeks and was following the plans left by the teacher that left. In an effort to please her, I stepped up the program and even bought a lot of materials out of my own pocket for gifted students.  It didn't matter to her.  Regardless of what I did that year, this mother complained.  Looking back, I wish she had taken her child to another school.
