Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Rainy Day schedules should be modified!

It rained here.  All Day!  We didn't get a break!  I am thinking that things should change.  Maybe we should insist that students go outside and play in the rain.  After all, they won't shrink.  If I thought it were possibe to shrink, I would certainly be outside playing in the rain myself.  What a great idea!

But, noooooo!  They have to stay in the classrooms.  We had to open the rooms for the students before school.  We had to keep the kids in at recess.  We also had to keep them in the room during lunch recess.  They were driving us crazy.

After school, they all relished the rain and played and danced all the way to the buses while I was standing with my umbrella trying unsuccessfully to stay relatively dry.

I think on rainy days, the school day should be started as soon as the kids arrive.  Then since we have to keep them in during recess and lunch, the school day should end that many minutes earlier.  How does that sound?  I mean, we did not even get a real lunch today.  That should count for time off early, right?  In the old days we were allowed to leave as soon as the kids did on rainy days.

I doubt that parents would be happy if their children were dropped off early but if it was a rule, they would know that rainy days would be earlier release days too.  How cool would that be.  We could just keep teaching since there is no recess and get off quicker.  I would have gotten home an hour early today.  Cool!

I know what you mean.  At my last school we were told that we had to pick our kids up early after lunch on bad weather days.  That meant about a 15 minute lunch.  Gulp and run!  The sad part was that they considered days that were a little cold bad weather days.  It didn't even have to be raining.

Give me a break---Give me a break (Sung to the tune of "Break me off a piece of that Kitkat bar")

This is what I think every rainy or snowy day.  What I wouldn't give to have even a 3' x 3' space just to be alone with a quiet thought or two.  And I know it's rough on the kids too--never to be alone or to have space around you like you do on a big playground.

Spring, please come soon!
