Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

OKay! I am officially crabby!

One of my team members was leaning over the lock on the courtyard door.  We keep it locked so the kids don't come in and wander the halls before school when everyone is out on duty.  It gets unlocked when the kids are brought in from the playground.  Safety issue you see.  Anyway, we wear our keys around our neck so we can go in and out as needed before the bell.  She was leaning over the bar like we have to do when we unlock the door.  There is no other reason to bend over the bar that way.  All I said was "We don't unlock that..."  And she stood up and said loudly "I'm not unlocking or locking this door."  Then she stomped off.

Now, there was no reason to snipe at me.  There was no reason for her to be bending over the bar unless she was unlocking the door.  I know it was locked because I just came in through it and had to use my key.  Maybe I sounded crabby but I didn't think I was until this happened.  She sniped at me as if I caught her doing something wrong.  I am really tired of this.

I could go talk to her and see what was wrong, but she keeps asking me if we are still going to be a team next year.  I don't want her on my team until she quits acting like a "dumb blond"  NOT MY WORDS.  She can't remember how to do technology because she is always flustered.  She can't remember to read her emails, she can't do lesson plans unless I tell her what I am doing this week.  Yes, we are supposed to do lesson plans together but she acts as if she does not have an idea of her own in her head.  The others at least put out ideas and comments.  All she does is whine that we are going too fast.  We have 30 minutes to do lesson plans for heaven's sake.  We have to move fast.

I am constantly getting notes asking for help on her computer.  Like I can just walk out of my classroom and go fix her problems?  In fact, she walks into mine to ask for help.  Who is watching her kids?  We all have breaks at the same time.

Monkey Poop hasn't been here all week. I don't know if that is good or bad.  She is definitely losing money by now and that does worry me.  I don't want them to lose their new house.  I may not like working with her but I don't wish her bad luck either.  I hope she went to a doctor this time.

My ex-student who should be in ED went balistic in the hallway yesterday and screamed so loud that every teacher came running out of their classrooms to see what the problem was.  They carried him kicking and screaming to the office.  The teachers were kicked, scratched and hit.  Me?  I just turned around and walked back into my classroom.  I don't want any accusations or law suits saying I stepped in when I shouldn't have.  I let my team members handle it.  After all, I did it by myself for quite a while.

One more week until spring break.  We are all on the edge of our tempers.  And they wanted to do away with all of our breaks?  I think I would have to start using my sick leave to take vacations if they did.

How frustrating to have to "carry" people who will not help your team.  It is so hard to always be the one generating the ideas.  This year I am working completely alone  and I sometimes wish that I had someone to bounce ideas around with.  Situations like this remind me that working alone is definitely not all bad.  Good Luck!

About MysteryTeacher

I am 53 years old and have been teaching for 20 years this year. I have two daughters and two grandaughters and two son-in-laws, all of whom I adore. I love to travel with friends but I am now saving for retirement in about 14 years. I am becoming technologically educated. Since digital is the 21st century than I believe that teachers should too. We need to be educated enough to understand our students. I have a teaching degree, a masters degree, an ESL endorsement and a Gifted endorsement.
