I am so tired of my class just sitting there stony faced and not participating in my class. I have tried methods of engagement and had some great results. However, this is the week before spring break and all the other schools are already on break this week. My kids are bummed and therefore not participating.
Of course, this is the last week of the quarter and the copy machine is broken so I can't make copies of missing work too. Well, I made a deal with the little devils... I mean angels. I told them, if they would copy the notes and study their little brains out and get an A on the tests, I would give them an A for the quarter. Of course the ones who already making an A are the ones who got excited and are studying. The others don't care and still don't. They will flunk anyway I suppose. I am trying to motivate them but I am not getting much excitement.
This morning, after our reading test, we created Chinese dragons as a culminating activity for our reading story. It was easy to follow and all they had to do was read the directions. They couldn't do it. They whined and complained that it was too hard and boring. So, I made it mandatory. We will finish it tomorrow. They don't like thinking and following directions is thinking. I am tired of this TV generation who don't want to do anything. It is really hard on teachers who try so hard to make learning an adventure.
