Insights behind the perils of being a teacher

Back to work!

I am very excited.  Every year it is like starting a new job.  Think about it!  How many jobs out there do you get a new start every single year?  Education is the place to be.  New students, new teachers, new materials, new ideas and everything is beginning at the beginning!  If you had a bad year last year, you can start over and have a good one this year.  What a way to live and work!

Tomorrow is the official day.  I have to be there by 7:30 for the big District Breakfast and introductions, paper work and etc.  Actually, I have been working in my room all week.  But at noon today, the cleaning crew chased me out so they could put a seal and shine on my tile floor at the door of my room.  If I stayed, I would not have been able to get out of my room until tomorrow.  So, I left.  I still have a lot to do.

Last year I didn't even get to use my desk.  The drawers were still empty.  This year, I am changing my room around because I need my desk.  I was trying to get all my things organized and put in the right place so I can find everything.  But, maybe I will get it done tomorrow afternoon.  I got several hugs from returning teachers and it felt like old home again.

The positive attitude is permeating the walls.  I love that about a new year.  It is before things go wrong and attitudes change.  I always love the beginning of a new year.

Good luck for all of you returning or beginning a new year in a new world.

Sounds like you are moving right along! I'm convinced that they give us some time off in the summer so we can put all the previous year's "craziness" behind us and since we block it out, we are ready to start a new year!

I've never taught in a year round school...wonder how it works for them? Do the longer vacations reenergize them or do they have some other "trick" or method that gets them going again. I kind of see the year round teacher like that pink Energizer bunny. :^)

As a student I always thought that summer was for me, but now I really know that summer is for the teacher. Summers definatly let teachers recoop and keep their sanity.
