I received couple of articles in my grad tech class to read and comment on...
1. The first article called Money (That's What I Want) by Victor Rivero is out of the (Sept/Oct 2004) Edutopia publication. This article shares tips, from the grant-guru John Quick explaining to the educator how-to increase their chances in receiving a grant. Out of the ten tips Quick shares, in my opinion, the most difficult part of developing a grant proposal is defining your problem and designing a solution which work hand in hand.
In the past, I have like any other educator complain of not having materials in my classroom for my students. This is a pro-active way in obtaining funds for your classroom. I will continue to read and hopefully I will document my grant-writing journey here on my blog!
2. We discussed the ins & outs of what Open Source is during class. The article on the
Open Source Movement has a plethora of information. I am personally interested in Moodle which is featured in this article. Distance learning is where education is heading towards. Also, I am interested in the OpenOffice software. I would like to try out the software so I can recommend it to parents for their students that do not have Microsoft Office at home to complete their assignments.
I am really enjoying class this weekend!
