Capturing Time: Directed purpose from Flanagan HS PD Plan

Another instrument from the 2007-2008 Planning and Implementing School-based Professional Development comes from Flanagan High School's PD Team.  Randy O'Dowd, Kathleen Cappy, Sheila Lablanc, Judy Muth, and Principal Sharon Shaulis, revised their plan to include a clearly defined purpose for the role faculty members play in professional development training at their school.  I've included a snapshot of one of the roles as an attachment to this post.  How would using an instrument similar to this support your professional development plan?

South Plantation High is currently developing a similar plan that is teacher driven in the devlopment of content and presenting content themselves.  This past Friday we had a day that nearly mirrored the example given.  Many teachers had positive comments as there seemed to be more value for them.  Looks like we are headed in the right direction.

Using a tool like the one they came up with sets ground rules for staff development. It lets everyone know the expectations of the participants. I think it would be useful to create a tool like this for my school. I'm going to share it with my PD team.

My school uses a similar plan, too.  We base it on a teacher survey and then let them choose which sessions they want to attend on a professional dev. day (usually on Early Release days.)  To make it even more relevant, we create opportunities for K-2 OR 3-5.
