The Good Kind Of Bad Day
Today was most certainly not my day for several reasons... but I am realizing it is the "good" kind of bad. I differentiate because at the end of the day when I walked through the door to my apartment, I rushed into my room and pulled on sweats, eager

Re-vamping Plans... Gaining Responsibilities...
I haven't even gotten to day 1 yet and I am already changing plans! For example... I am throwing out the idea of doing ice-breakers at the beginning of the year altogether. I found out more about the new kids we are getting to my alternative school and

Keep It Simple Stupid
There are so many acronyms flying around in the world of education, LEP, IEP, SOL, EOC, ESOL, POS, that I have decided that my new favorites is KISS = keep it simple stupid (yes, POS and SOL are actual acronyms). When I sit down to plan I am often already

Filling Buckets...
I heard a lot of "Good luck" with an edge of sarcasm last year when I decided to teach alternative kids... but they had no idea what a well kept secret my school is! Today, I was struck once again at the faculty meeting by the atmosphere of enthusiasm

Pink Hair?
After my "cup o' joe" this morning, I was glancing at the headlines and came across this one: School suspends girl over pink hair . I watched the video and was kind of surprised when I saw how young the student was and that she was dying her hair in memory

Practice makes perfect... or as my brother says perfect practice makes perfect
I finished writing my blog about disrespect and realized that I had no real plan for how to get better at knowing just what to say and how to say it . I know what I want to do... but I mentioned that I am not naturally confrontational. However, as a professional,

#2 Ice Breakers
I am going to start with #2 on my list from my previous blog: " Take a Number ." But first I would like to note that since I have started preparing, I haven't had any other anxiety dreams about teaching, as in my first blog, lengthy introduction . In

Take a number!
So this is the week that I start thinking again. Back To School... Back To School... Back To School... I had a little trouble accomplishing anything at first because there is so much that I want to have prepared and so many things I want to improve on.

What a community!
This is going to be a very short blog, unlike my lengthy introduction! But I promise there will be more lengthy ones to come. I am just so excited about this community. I have been perusing the other blogs and seeing that I really enjoy this Teacher Lingo

My lengthy introduction
I have never tried blogging before and I am a little nervous. I am simultaneously hopeful and anxious. I would love to get some feedback from readers, but I have never really shared my life on-line. I usually am a "lurker" on forums and blogs and not
