My name is Jennifer and I am a Special Education teacher in Western, MA. I teach in a resource room for the the fourth, fifth and sixth grades. I have a separate Language Arts and Math Program, but coordinate with the General Education Teachers for Science and Social Studies. I am getting my master's in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment through Walden University Online and I love it so far! This is my fifth year of teaching as a full time Special Education Teacher. Prior to that I ran a home daycare and also taught pre-school. I grew up in the Bronx and moved to the Berkshires when I got married after college and I have a beautiful 8 year daughter. (Yes this means I am a Yankees fan living in Red Sox Territory.) I published a book of poems a few years ago. I went to college to be a writer and became a teacher instead. I also work part time at a Residential School for children with severe Emotional and Behavioral disorders. Why am I blogging? I started reading blogs for an assignment for my graduate studies and I thought it would be an excellent way to meet fellow teachers and share ideas. My strengths: I am very organized, very involved with the children I work with and above all else I enjoy teaching! I also know that in order to become a truly effective teacher I must continue learning and growing, both as an individual and as a teacher. My weaknesses: I have a hard time being politically correct, in the eyes of our administration; meaning, I often rock the boat and say what's on mind. I am working on doing that more effectively and appropriately. I also am working on collaborting more with the general education teachers, to have the children I work with included as much as possible. Please, feel free to ask me questions and perhaps respond to some of mine.<img src="http://teacherlingo.com/aggbug.aspx?PostID=32241" width="1" height="1">
