Summer Dreams

ConfusedIs it just me, or do other teachers start having dreams about school around this time of the summer?  I love teaching, and I love working with kids, so it's not as if I dread going back.  Every year I have dreams (nightmares) of the upcoming class, and it's mostly the same scenario: The kids come in, they start running around, and no matter what I say or do they won't stop being wild and crazy! It's always way more kids than can fit in my classroom, so there's never enough space to sit. Sometimes we're on the playground and they start running off the school grounds, and I spend the whole dream trying to bring them back! This whole thing is just so different from the way things really are!  Anybody else out there having these dreams?Sleep

I still have those dreams even after retiring!  I have them throughout the year, not just during the summer.  The kids go completely out of control and don't respond to anything I do.  Another dream I have is that I am not able to go to work, and I didn't call in for a substitute.  Somehow I know what is going on at school without me there, and I am in major trouble.:)

I have a recurring dream that I never make it to school on the first day because the clothes in my closet aren't my size.  I frantically try to find something that fits but everything is too small.  I actually wake up frantic and my heartbeat is rapid.

Later I find out that a sub was called and the day ended well for everyone but me.

I totally now what you mean!!  I have five weeks of freedom left and I've already started getting that little nervous knot.  How many first days of school do you need to have before that starts to go away??!?  I am switching from first to second grade this year so I'm waiting for that theme to creep into my dreams/nightmares....I'll keep you posted!!

You'll love second grade! I have been there for 12 years of my 21 years of teaching, and it's been great! I don't think I'll ever stop having those dreams, though.

I also have the dream about not going to work, but in the dream I know I'm not going and I keep putting off calling the school to tell the secretary. I piddle around and think I should probably call, but when I finally do, the day is about over! Of course, I could never do that, but it's strange that I can and do in my dream!
