    Help for New Teachers

Being a new teacher can be stressful. College professors teach text book theory. But when you step into a real live classroom

of your own all of that goes out of the window. Well I found a book that is easy to read and right to the point.

It is called Secrets of Classroom Behavior Management

    By Mamie Jefferson-Hill

You can buy it on Amazon.com

This book helped me alleviate stress and help solve many of my problems

This book teaches you how to deal with real life situations.

    Re: Help for New Teachers

You are right about one thing. College education professors do not prepare students well enough for the classroom in the real world.

Books are good, so are your fellow teachers.

Just remember that each book and each teacher are not the end all. Glean one or two things from them. The rest comes from experience.

    Hello all,

I am currently a junior attending Illinois State University and I've decided to create a blog to gather some teachers together start putting together ideas and class room stories to help out us future educators! Anything anyone can contribute would be wonderful, have a great night!

    Re: Help for New Teachers

Blogs are a great idea for a new teacher. They may want to make them private however. A blog can be a day to day documentation of what works, and what does not work.

It can be a way of putting down thoughts and help make it through psychologically. Being a new teacher is tough. You may give access to your blog to fellow teachers and mentors, so they can comment on what you are doing.

You have to watch what info you give out to the public. If you make things about your class and students public, you may need to clarify the districts policy. Most will not allow names and faces of students.

Using email to keep in touch with parents is worth doing as well. Always use your official school email for such things.

    Re: Help for New Teachers

I agree... Books and blogs and such are all helpful. I'm also a big fan of teachers helping teachers. In that spirit, if you teach reading at all, you should check out the Read Works website... Amazing lesson plans and resources in there. Good luck!

    Re: Help for New Teachers

Books are okay, but you really should partner up with a mentor or veteran teacher.
They all want to help. Just finished a blog post on teachers and parents. New
teachers should take note of what they should encourage parents to do.

    Re: Help for New Teachers

Planning and expressing the innovative ideas in teaching makes the students to understand easily and it prevents the teachers from stress.
