    Amazing kids

I had a student tell me that he has never had a teacher like me.  He said that he had never cared about school before and had always felt stupid. He said he felt like I had 'learned' him something  (And yes, he said learned)  He said my class was fun and interesting.  He said he loved me.  He told me I was a great teacher.

Kids are amazing and this one made me cry. He gave me a big hug.  Its kids like him that make me love the teaching part of my job.

Too bad all the other stuff is stressful!

    Re: Amazing kids

The reason I chose to pursue Chemistry Education  was because I think that chemistry is fun, challenging and exciting, and I want to show others how this seemingly boring subject can be cool and interesting. I truly believe that teachers who love their subject create students who love the subject; passion sparks interest, and interest produces a natural desire to learn. I hope that I have the opportunity to inspire others to work hard, try their best, and make good decisions in school. The greatest honor for me in life would be to know that someday, some young person decides to pursue teaching or science because of some small difference I have made on their life. It seems like you are doing a great job, keep it up! I hope that one day I can get that same response!

Getting a student "liking" to come to school and be in your class is half the battle.
Teachers can make their classrooms more inviting even without being touchy feely.

The more you show interest in your students, subject, and enthusiasm for being there, the more
    students will show interest back.

I don't know why some teachers feel the need to be constantly antagonizing.

It is stories like this that keep us wanting to become better at teaching and those really special students seem to stick with us forever.  Congratulations --- these are rewards money can not buy :)

Has anyone viewed "The Make a Difference Movie-The Teddy Stallard Story" by Mary Robinson Reynolds?

Reminded me about the best teacher gifts. We like gift cards a lot, rather than a mug or stuffed animal.

But the best gift is a thoughtful thank you note!
