What do you typically do when you are left without lesson plans?

On our website we have a lot of material that you can print/use to supplement what is going on in the class (that is, extra/new handouts to match the course content).

But do you try other approaches?   I know that just letting the kids "sit there" does no good because not only does it waste learrrning time, but kids get restless and rowdy.

So, what do you do?  :)

 Thanks for the information and it is great that you intend to help free. I think in deciding lesson plans we should pay a thought over the students capability and available teaching time. Regular assessment tests, repeated lectures, open discussions etc are also the part of teaching.

You ask the kids what their schedule is. Then go from their.
Find out what page/chapter they are on.

Then during recess, ask the teacher next door for help.
Chances are, they will help you out.

"No Lesson Plans", unfortunately many times a sub is left to his/her own devices. The first thing to do is to look for another teacher in the vicinity of your classroom. If no one is around, go to the main office and ask for the class schedule and an attendance list. Once you have a schedule you can piece together your day. Look through a child's desk. That will give you a good idea as to what's  being taught and which pages to assign in workbooks.
Also, depending upon the age group, games will keep the students actively engaged. And don't forget about rewards!
