    Multisensory Research Based Reading Program

     HI,

I am new to this forum, so forgive me if the format of my post is incorrect. I was not sure if this should be posted in the Middle School or High School section.

At this time I am a graduate student in education and would like to gather some information about the subject of, 'Multi-sensory Research Based Reading Programs'. I have heard about them a couple of times but have been unable to find a lot of information on the topic.

Any help you can give will greatly help- title of books, a break down of what it is/means or websites on the topic.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Danny,

Well there are a few programs I know about.  Orton Gillingham is the oldest, I believe, and one of the first reading programs to come out with the multisensory approach to reading/spelling.  I have used this program and it is excellent!  It is great for students who have Dyslexia or other reading disability.  Another popular program Wilson.  It is pretty much based on the same concepts as Orton Gillingham but Barbara Wilson had a better marketing technique.  These two programs are the most popular, in my opinion.

Re: Multisensory Research Based Reading Program

I actually didn't know too much about Multi-sensory Research Based Reading programs until I stumbled upon this article. After doing a teach on the term, I take it that it's a program that's, obviously, sensory based. Essentially, one learns by doing and by doing they learn what words are associated with actions or things they see. If this is the case, then this is great tool for someone who is just learning how to read. People have a tendency to learn faster when they understand what they're reading.
