    Students editing their own work

How do you get students to edit their own work (ie-essays)? What are your strategies?

I have taught my students run-ons, fragments, punctuation, capitalization, etc. They tell me they know it and actually tested well. When it comes to writing their own essays and then going back and revising and editing, I feel like they are braindead. Any ideas??
