    Reading

Hello, first grade teachers! What approach are you using
in teaching your pupils how to read? Also, how do you
motivate your pupils to read and respond and respond to
    what they read?

    Re: Reading

Just this year we started using the Reader's Workshop, more info on it here, and the kids really seem to be responding. We put a lot of emphasis on each child working at their own pace. Some are still at an beginning 1st grade level while others have reached 3rd grade level. Reading is a key focus this year as we work to get those that are struggling caught up.
