KIDIPEDE is a free, online dictionary/encyclopedia focusing on middle school students.

I was tempted to pass up today’s site — KIDIPEDE. It advertised itself as a history site. Closer inspection revealed that much of it’s content is history focused but, it also has math, science, chemistry, biology and physics resources as well.

KIDIPEDE claims middle [...]

WORDNIK: Free, Online Dictionary Tool

Greetings,

WORDNIK is a free, online dictioary tool with lots of options and features.
Calling WORDNIK a dictionary tool is a little like calling Wikipedia an encyclopedia. It’s that and much more.

WORDNIK is easy to use. It’s home page looks like any other search type app with a text box dominating the middle of the screen.

RHYMES.NET is a free, online rhyming dictionary for aspiring song writers and poets.

Not exactly a prerequisite for every DE Tool Box however, should educators (online or otherwise) feel the need to express themselves in song or verse RHYMES.NET is there to help with those tough endings such as Vancouver (which happens to rhyme with groover, [...]

YAHOO REFERENCE: Free, Web Based Reference Resources

Greetings,

YAHOO REFERENCE is a collection of free, web based reference materials.

IMHO, none of the big search engine companies have been particularly active in the K-12 arena. Google has made it’s “Google Docs” available to schools and offered some training to educators and Yahoo has done even less so it’s understandable if this resource [...]
