The Very Tired Teacher! Freebie and a Giveaway

On Monday I went to school after having enjoyed a week of vacation time with 2/3 of my real life children. My vacation time went way too fast, but I was pretty happy to get back to a routine. Luckily Mondays are our iPad and library days. I'm getting better at using my iPad days in educational ways. I came home on Monday feeling pretty tired.

On Tuesday I got a free download from Carson Dellosa. I took a school iPad home to play with. The book, Run! Predators, is very engaging. From the first sentence, "Have you ever seen a bear with a shopping cart?" to the Bengal Tiger at the end, I was prey to a common core aligned non-fiction book! Many of the animals had features that allow the reader to hear the sound the animal makes...Sweet! The map feature allows you to quickly see how close the predator lives in relationship to you! I plan on getting more books from this series to feed my non-fiction predators. After devouring this book, I was still tired.

On Wednesday we started playing a new game in the math work stations. The kids enjoyed playing the Very Smart Mathapillar! I had found awesome sparkly pom-poms for sale right after Easter. Here they are in action. Click on the picture if you'd like a copy of the mathapillars! I came home on Wednesday still feeling tired.

Thursday brought the story of Doubting Thomas to my class. I'll be giving chapel in a couple of weeks, so I'll pass it off to my owlets and let them do chapel for me! They are ready and will enjoy leading the school in worshiping our awesome God who is NEVER tired or crabby! They are practicing this Doubting Thomas story to present during chapel time. I know that some of you can use this too so click HERE for this freebie. I came home on Thursday later than usual and I was still tired.

Today is Friday and I woke up tired! I thought I should head over to see Laura at Love to Teach to see if I could win my own Starbucks card at her 400 Follower Giveaway. Have you entered? Some of you may already know that I am a parent to a child diagnosed with PDD-NOS. My son is 6 years old and helps (along with his 2 brothers) to keep my husband and I on our toes. He is technology geek ~~just like his mamma~~ and could probably teach anyone how to use a computer. I recently explained to A about Autism and how it is something he is diagnosed with. To help him understand I used this great video that I discovered a few months ago.

Great right? Anyway, I have been teaching in special education for 8 years now and if you follow my blog, you know that it is my love. I decided to share some of my teacher, student and data collection forms with you as a freebie!

Let Me Google That For You...

Three day weekend on tap for this girl! How about you guys? My big plans include lots of coffee and snuggling up with the hubs. It's supposed to get COLD here this weekend. It's going to dip down into the low 40's. My friends, that is headline making news around these parts. I'm not even kidding.

So, when I was at FETC last month I saw some really amazing things that I fully intend to share more about as soon as I play with them enough to know what I'm doing. But there is one thing that just cracked me up that I have to share. If you're the person lots of people come to for help, you'll appreciate this one.

Now don't get me wrong. I love talking to people and helping them learn new things, but lots of times the things that people ask me to help them with could be answered by a simple Google search. Sound familiar to anyone else? If so, then you are going to love this as much as I do. Imagine this scenario, which usually doesn't involve coffee, but you get the idea:

Friend: Hey Denise, can you help me for a second?
Me: Sure, what's up?
Friend: Oh, I was just wondering if you could help me. I know you drink a lot of coffee and stuff.
Me: I sure do. What do you want to know?
Friend: Well, I was just wondering, can you tell me if coffee has caffeine?
Me: Well, check out this link. It's pretty helpful.

Bwhahaha!! Is that a crack up or what? It's seriously called Let Me Google That For You. In their own words, it's for all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their questions rather than google it themselves.

As funny as I think it is, I'd feel too mean to actually use it with someone who really needs help, but it might be fun to send to a friend. This article on CNET has a little more about it along with some pretty good techy April Fool's Day pranks. It's never too early to start planning a good prank!

A Celebration Freebie!

I love celebrations! So let's continue my 200 Followers Celebration with a Freebie!

When we return to school next week, my third graders will need some math review to help clean the cobwebs out of their heads. One of the skills that we need to review is 3-digit subtraction with regrouping and across zeros. Therefore, I put together an independent activity that will be used as seat work during our Math Stations next week.

This activity also gives the students practice in rewriting a horizontal equation to a vertical equation, a new skill for third graders. This is important practice for lining up the numbers in the correct place values and copying the numbers accurately.

This is my first Thanksgiving as a blogger and TpT seller. I just finished my packet that I will be giving away yesterday!!. It's called "Hooray for November Celebrations! for K-2. It includes a Shared Reading Book called "What Happens in November?". Here is a sample page from the book.

"Pop for Blends" Giveaway and a FREEBIE For All!

Here is it guys - a super cute, fun, and engaging activity for your students to use during Reading/Literacy centers!

It's called Pop for Blends! and it's from Learning Resources.

Here are the rules:

1. Choose a game piece (adorable little popcorn pieces!)

2. Spin the spinner

3. The number you land on represents how many words you must come up with for that blend.

4. Say the correct amount - you keep the piece! Say the incorrect amount, you have to put your piece back.

5. Beware!!! If you choose a POP! piece, you must give back ALL of your popcorn pieces and start over!

Winner - the person with the most popcorn pieces at the end!

There are over 25 different blends included in the game. And there are multiple ways to play! This game is a fabulous way to keep the kids engaged in a meaningful activity, as well as teaching them teamwork and cooperation! It's a win-win situation!
