President's Day Freebie!!

My favorite place to get graphics for my classroom materials, My Cute Graphics, just added some new President's Day clipart to her webpage. I just had to find a way to use it!

I made these cards to use with my students as a vocabulary and matching game. Each month we have different words that are some vocabulary related to that month. For example we this month we have heart, Valentine, card, President, White House, Abraham Lincoln, etc. This is a great way to practice some of the vocabulary that the students may see or hear and give them some background knowledge with it. It is amazing how quickly they pick up on these words and begin using them. Well, here you go, a freebie to start your week off right!! Sight words: Color by code (Freebie!)

Something new I started doing with our sight words is color by code. I originally posted about this in this blog post. Students color their sight words by the code to reveal the answer to the question. Everyone seemed to really like the color by code so I decided to make another that is not seasonally related. It has cute little riddles to solve by coloring. I have a free preview just for the readers of my blog by clicking here. (Make sure you go through the link and not through TPT. Oh turkey! (Revisit)

I have gained a lot of new followers since I posted this last year. I thought we should revisit Oh Turkey! so all of the new comers to check it out also (and those of you who missed it or forgot you had it can get it also!).

Here is the description from my TPT store: This 15 page document includes various versions of the game "Oh Turkey!" for your students to enjoy. The first set is all of the upper and lowercase letters. The second set is numbers 1-20 along with turkeys programmed with dots for numbers 1 -10 so that students can also practice 1:1 correspondence. The third set is the Dolch pre-primer sight words. To play students pick out one turkey from a basket and read the letter/word/number. If they get it correct they keep the turkey. If a student pulls "Oh Turkey!", then they must put all of the turkeys back in the basket.

Good gracious. What a week so far! Testing is really throwing some of my kids off! At least there's only two more days and then we're back to normal (at least "our" normal). :)

Most of my kids can tell you the correct punctuation to go at the end of a sentence, but struggle at times identifying the actual type of sentence it is. I'm talking about imperative, declarative, exclamatory, and interrogative.

"Pop for Blends" Giveaway and a FREEBIE For All!

Here is it guys - a super cute, fun, and engaging activity for your students to use during Reading/Literacy centers!

It's called Pop for Blends! and it's from Learning Resources.

Here are the rules:

1. Choose a game piece (adorable little popcorn pieces!)

2. Spin the spinner

3. The number you land on represents how many words you must come up with for that blend.

4. Say the correct amount - you keep the piece! Say the incorrect amount, you have to put your piece back.

5. Beware!!! If you choose a POP! piece, you must give back ALL of your popcorn pieces and start over!

Winner - the person with the most popcorn pieces at the end!

There are over 25 different blends included in the game. And there are multiple ways to play! This game is a fabulous way to keep the kids engaged in a meaningful activity, as well as teaching them teamwork and cooperation! It's a win-win situation!
