Welcome to the first stop on a special blog hop for Autism Awareness and the Special Educators who dedicate their time and talents working with students on the spectrum. Today being the official day for Light it up Blue & World Wide Autism Awareness Day that is sponsored yearly by Autism Speaks we thought it would be a great day to start this hop. There a lots of great bloggers participating and I hope you find lots of great information in the linked up posts. Some of you may already know that I am a parent to a child diagnosed with PDD-NOS. My son is 6 years old and helps (along with his 2 brothers) to keep my husband and I on our toes. He is technology geek ~~just like his mamma~~ and could probably teach anyone how to use a computer. I recently explained to A about Autism and how it is something he is diagnosed with. To help him understand I used this great video that I discovered a few months ago.

Great right? Anyway, I have been teaching in special education for 8 years now and if you follow my blog, you know that it is my love. I decided to share some of my teacher, student and data collection forms with you as a freebie!

President's Day Freebie!!

My favorite place to get graphics for my classroom materials, My Cute Graphics, just added some new President's Day clipart to her webpage. I just had to find a way to use it!

I made these cards to use with my students as a vocabulary and matching game. Each month we have different words that are some vocabulary related to that month. For example we this month we have heart, Valentine, card, President, White House, Abraham Lincoln, etc. This is a great way to practice some of the vocabulary that the students may see or hear and give them some background knowledge with it. It is amazing how quickly they pick up on these words and begin using them. Well, here you go, a freebie to start your week off right!! I had a special request from the wonderful paraprofessionals that I work with to make a version of oh no! that is not seasonal and that has both the upper and lowercase letters on the cards. So this is what I came up with. What do you think?

Hurricane Sandy means no school and a freebie!

Color by the code

Well, I am home due to hurricane Sandy. The little corner of our town that my family and I live in does not flood, however, I can't say that for the rest of the town. I never experienced a flood day until I started teaching here. It is amazing how some of the town families have lived her for a 100 years and even after all of the floods they have experienced will never leave. Small town living is that awesome.

Since I am home I thought I would work on something I have been planning in my head. This is an activity to practice sight words or numbers (although really we could add math facts, etc to it also). Students color the squares by the code to reveal the answer to a question or riddle. I started because I want to continue working on numbers with my student that I made the monster cover up for. (If you missed it, click here to get your freebie!) This quick activity then spiraled into covering some of the sight words that our first grade students are working on.
I used Clip Art from my new favorite place for FREE graphics, .

I also used a new font called What the teacher wants from Kimberly Geswein Fonts. It was created with the input from another fantastic blog, What the Teacher Wants.

Oh turkey! (Revisit)

I have gained a lot of new followers since I posted this last year. I thought we should revisit Oh Turkey! so all of the new comers to check it out also (and those of you who missed it or forgot you had it can get it also!).

Here is the description from my TPT store: This 15 page document includes various versions of the game "Oh Turkey!" for your students to enjoy. The first set is all of the upper and lowercase letters. The second set is numbers 1-20 along with turkeys programmed with dots for numbers 1 -10 so that students can also practice 1:1 correspondence. The third set is the Dolch pre-primer sight words. To play students pick out one turkey from a basket and read the letter/word/number. If they get it correct they keep the turkey. If a student pulls "Oh Turkey!", then they must put all of the turkeys back in the basket.

So today is my 30th Birthday. At first I thought I really would not care, but as it crept closer that not caring... went away. However the other day I was thinking and I have really accomplished/experienced a lot in the last 10 years. I fell in and out of love and finally found my true love, graduated college with honors, was hired for my first teaching job, moved 450 miles away from home without blinking an eye, got married, went on my first cruise, quit my first teaching job and found a new teaching career in a district that I am proud to call home, lost my step-mother due to cancer, was nominated teacher of the year and the the following year awarded teacher of the year, and gave birth to my 3 beautiful boys, A, B, & C. Wow, that is a lot and I am sure I missed a lot. Anyway since I will be celebrating with my family I thought my blog friends deserve to party with me, so I have a freebie today!!! Yay!!! Enjoy!! Uh, oh... I am having download problems. Hopefully by the time this posts it will be all fixed. :o(
