Center Fun, a couple freebies, and a new product

Wow! What a blog post title, huh?

I feel like I've been neglecting this little blog of mine again. How does everyone keep up with everything? I truly don't see how to be a mommy, a wife, a teacher, create things to help my kiddos, do laundry, cook, clean,---EGADS! There's so much stuff to do all the time. I'm frazzled.

Do you know what I do when I get frazzled? I BAKE!! People this chic should not be baking unless someone is around to take it off my hands.

THEN, we've been house hunting (Still)....what an awful process. I don't remember it being this bad several years ago, but my family has expanded by 2 kids and some animals since the last time I went through this. It's so stressful. Do you know what I do when I get stressed? Yep, I bake!!

See---I started making small cookies...this is just a salad size plate.

But, eventually my cookies ended up being biggins.

Yep, same plate---triple the size.

Baking tip....a box of instant pudding in your cookie mix---OMGosh! :)

Then, after this whole house ordeal----

They are like Hostess Cupcakes...

Now my pics aren't the greatest, but the taste---OH MY! Then again, they could be awful and I'd still say they tasted heavenly because it's Chocolate, and I'm stressed! :)

Okay, I need to focus here.....back on track.

Can I just say how much I'm loving my new center pack?

This past week was one of the best yet for my students at stations.

They really enjoyed all the stations I set out for them.

I should them how to play Catch a Snowflake during Guided Groups last week. They played this over and over at groups. The variety of levels that are included kept all my learners engaged.

They've also enjoyed the journal prompts as most of them have them talking about winter and snow! :)

In math, per our Envision Series, we are working on skip counting. I used my cute graphics to whip up a few skip counting sheets.

There's a page for counting by 10 to 120, counting by 2s to 20, and counting by 5s to 120. I used the counting by 10s as a quick check. They cut them out and glued them in order to a construction paper strip. You could also use a sentence strip. You can click HERE to grab you a copy of the skip counting sheets.

The last thing I want to share with you is my new product.

I am totally pleased with this packet. I hope my kiddos enjoy learning about the landmarks. I've included two different readers (and the black/white version to match).

Holiday Fun

Is it just me, or does it seem like the kiddos are geared for Christmas from Thanksgiving on? I try and try to go on with our "normal" routine--Treasures, Envision, ya know---that stuff! They are so excited for Christmas, and I can't blame them. I guess I'm ready too! Sometimes though, if you can't beat them--join them. That's what I'm doing from now til Christmas Break!

Great advice right?

Last year, we did these cute little Santas suck in a chimney. The idea came from Cara Carroll. Her ideas are just Phenomenal!! You can find her post <<HERE>> along with other awesome Christmas ideas.

Last year when I made them, it was all about the craft. I just wanted to see how cute they looked in the hallway. This year, I wanted my students to tell me how they would help him. I added a little lined page to the craft. Here is what they look like.

After reading the story, students completed a sentence on how they would help get Santa out.

The Santa craft tied in well with our Math unit on Shapes. We've been talking about congruent shapes, symmetry, plane shapes, and solid shapes. As we made our craft, we talked about many of those concepts.

First, students were all given a piece of red construction paper. I showed them that we were going to make a square and two rectangles from it. Then we folded our paper so the corner met the bottom edge. They saw that they had a line of symmetry with two congruent triangles. We cut off the excess (where the paper didn't overlap each other) to have a rectangle. We then folded the rectangle in half and made two smaller rectangles. Again, they saw they were congruent.

This pieces became the legs and the chimney.

We added a black rectangle on the top, and made "bricks" with our crayon. We discussed the word staggering as we added our bricks in between each row. Then they glued their writing to the middle.

We added cotton to the bottom of Santa's legs for his fur, and added cotton to the chimney for a snow effect. (Since doing this Friday, I saw the 3D effect for snow on the chimney using glue and shaving cream--I LOVE it!)

Now, for this week. I'm doing little mini units by the day (or couple days). I'm not organized (or talented enough) to do those great visual lesson plans that you see several other bloggers doing. BUT---I can share with you my plans for the next two days.

I will be doing a Gingerbread mini-unit.

We will be reading these two great stories!

Then we will use a few of the writing activities (as there are a variety of writing prompts)

from my Gingerbread Fun for Everyone pack.

The stations/games that are in this pack are to meet the needs of the variety of levels in my class. The Read and Write the rooms are color coded (and different graphic) for my below and on level group. One group will be working on short vowel (CVC) words and the other on digraphs. The math stations are set the same way. One group will be working on writing math facts/fact families, and the other group on missing addends. The spinner games in the pack are for my Fast Finishers (and to continue throughout the holiday season).

For my high level firsties, I plan on using some of the activities in the Bubbly Blonde's pack.

Oh turkey! (Revisit)

I have gained a lot of new followers since I posted this last year. I thought we should revisit Oh Turkey! so all of the new comers to check it out also (and those of you who missed it or forgot you had it can get it also!).

Here is the description from my TPT store: This 15 page document includes various versions of the game "Oh Turkey!" for your students to enjoy. The first set is all of the upper and lowercase letters. The second set is numbers 1-20 along with turkeys programmed with dots for numbers 1 -10 so that students can also practice 1:1 correspondence. The third set is the Dolch pre-primer sight words. To play students pick out one turkey from a basket and read the letter/word/number. If they get it correct they keep the turkey. If a student pulls "Oh Turkey!", then they must put all of the turkeys back in the basket.

New Math Games

This weekend I worked on a few math games. They are practicing time and numbers on a clock. I made them for this year, even though next year when we switch to common core time is no longer a kindergarten standard. Neither is money. I know we have decided to still include time and money in our morning calendar time so the kids are still exposed to it. What about you? Will you continue to teach time and money in some way? Do you think they need to be exposed to it before they get to first grade?
Anyway if you plan on still teaching it in kindergarten then you might like these games, but it meets the common core standard 1.MD.3 for 1st grade. Go check them out at my TpT store. The clip art game from Graphics from the Pond (one of my favorites!!!!)

I have to say I was a little disappointed this morning when we didn't have a snow day or a delay. Yes you heard me right I said snow day. It was suppose to snow here last night. I really hoped our county would give us the day. We have 5 built in days left! Anybody else have built in days left? If so what is your county doing with them? Just wondering what is happening everywhere else!!!

Happy Friday y'all. Has your week been as CUH-RA-ZY as mine? My kiddos today were SOOOOOO talkative. They must be coming down with a case of spring fever...I know that I sure am!! Not that I'm counting (3 days left), but spring break is just right around the corner----and again, not that I'm counting we're not far (41 days) from summer vacation.

Telling Time--my strategy

Just a quick post today. This is how I've taught my kids to notice the difference between hour and minute hand for the past several years. It has worked with my firsties (AND second graders) so it must help :) Here's your freebie for today.

"Patterns and Rules" Math Center

Y'all know I LOVE football (even if my team doesn't even make it past the first playoff game).
