Wild About Words-Silent E Edition

So friends, I've been a little MIA this past week. I didn't post a Tuesday Tip, and I didn't post a What's Cooking Wednesday. My Tip and my What's Cooking would've been one in the same. When life gets too busy---order take out! :)

I was working *** getting my 2nd set of Super Reader Finished. My lower firsties have truly had success with it. As a matter of fact, I tested them on the 2nd set of words Tuesday and there were quite a few taking home flash cards to practice. I retested them on Wednesday and several took home their completed sticker book! I was THRILLED!

I changed how I am implementing in my classroom since ALL of them want a sticker book. I tested them on all 25 words of the set (knowing that I had students that already mastered all the words, but they wanted their book nonetheless). As I tested them, I placed a black dot on the line of the Super Reader Sticker Book, and then when they were done, they put stickers throughout their book except on the ones that had a black dot. I just quickly made flash cards with index cards since they didn't necessarily miss 5 words per set. The ones that go to pull out intervention are having their 5 words shuffled in each week. The rest of my class are tested for the first 10 minutes of my Reading Intervention time. Then if next week, I still have students struggling, I use the sight word readers and skill work for the words. This is how I also did Set One. I had two students (other than my pull out group) that were working on the sight word stories. They loved the books and felt successful reading it.

I created this activity to help my students review the historical figures we've covered this nine weeks. We've covered Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, and Mary McLeod Bethune. The students had to sort the facts and glue them into the correct category. We did it today and went GREAT!!! Click the picture below to snag it for FREE from my TpT store!

We just wrapped up Paul Revere and these kids are pumped for our next historical figure! The kids are so surprised to find out about all the obstacles and inequities faced by our nation's leaders. Next up is Frederick Douglass. If you teach about him, I created a few activities for my class and thought I'd share them with you. :)

While teaching my students about landforms, I gave them this graphic to record definitions, examples, and pictures. I created an assessment to use at the end of our unit. The assessment includes a word bank.
