Hi Everyone,

Speech-Language Pathologists can improve your life. If their presence can have such a profound impact on your quality of life, what do you think their absence does? How frustrating is it to know that there are strategies that could help you…if you could simply have regular access to therapy services? Telepractice is a solution.

Telepractice is a medium that brings a service provider to you. For example, you could meet via video conferencing tools or on-line on a computer. A common question I hear is ‘does it work?’. Yes. When the technology and the service provider are prepared for service excellence, telepractice yields life changing results. Contact me anytime if you would like the recipe for success.

There is some very new research available that supports telepractice as an effective medium for increasing access to quality services. Steve Hards from Telecare Aware forwarded this resent study on the efficacy of treating stuttering via telehealth. The results were shared in COMD News: Events and Research in Speech, Language, and Hearing Disorders.

The results were as follows:

“Conclusions & Implications: The results provide evidence to support the use of the Camperdown Program delivered by telehealth as an alternate to the face-to-face treatment delivery of this programme for adults who stutter. Such a model will increase accessibility to this evidence-based treatment for adults currently isolated from treatment services.”

Hi Everyone,

It has been a few days since I’ve blogged. I hope everyone is doing well.

I wanted to bring some awareness to National Stuttering Day. Stuttering affects approximately 2.7 million in the U.S alone.

“Primary stuttering behaviors are the overt, observable signs of speech fluency breakdown, including repeating sounds, syllables, words or phrases, silent blocks and prolongation of sounds. These differ in from the normal disfluencies found in all speakers in that stuttering disfluencies may last longer, occur more frequently, and are produced with more effort and strain.[2] Stuttering disfluencies also vary in quality: normal disfluencies tend to be a repetition of words, phrases or parts of phrases, while stuttering is characterized by prolongations, blocks and part-word repetitions.[3]” -Wikiepedia
