To ask a question, Polansky says to [...]</description></item><item><title>Wear green and don't get pinched</title><link>http://teacherlingo.com/blogs/bettyb/archive/2007/03/16/wear-green-and-don-t-get-pinched.aspx</link><pubDate>Fri, 16 Mar 2007 21:51:58 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">2d57f927-24f1-4f58-a78a-cbbebe5f5d42:904</guid><dc:creator>Betty</dc:creator><description>&lt;p&gt;When I was a kid, St. Patrick's Day was a really big deal.&amp;nbsp; Kids who forgot to wear&lt;font color="#00ff00"&gt; green&lt;/font&gt; to school&amp;nbsp;were at the mercy of others all day long.&amp;nbsp; Teachers today usually help out the kids by giving them some small&amp;nbsp;&lt;font color="#00ff00"&gt;green&lt;/font&gt;&amp;nbsp;ribbon or something, but back then, you were usually on your own.&amp;nbsp; This year St. Patrick's Day falls on a Saturday, so it isn't as big a deal.&amp;nbsp; Looking at the &lt;a href="http://www.history.com/minisites/stpatricksday/"&gt;&lt;font color="#000000"&gt;History Channel website&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/a&gt;, I did find interesting facts about this holiday.&amp;nbsp; There is even a &lt;a href="http://www.history.com/minisite.do?content_type=Minisite_Video_Clips&amp;amp;content_type_id=1328&amp;amp;display_order=6&amp;amp;mini_id=1082"&gt;&lt;font color="#000000"&gt;video&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/a&gt; telling about the history of&amp;nbsp;St. Patrick's Day.&amp;nbsp; You do have to wait a minute to get past the AARP ad, but the video is very informative.&amp;nbsp; For example, I learned that there have never been snakes in Ireland.&amp;nbsp; Also, some people treat St. Patrick's Day as a religious day, and others celebrate their heritage.&amp;nbsp; When I think about St. Patrick's Day, I think of parades and four leaf clovers.&amp;nbsp; I also remember some pretty nasty pinches!&amp;nbsp; &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The website has a lot to offer.&amp;nbsp; You can even&amp;nbsp;test your knowledge by taking a&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="http://www.history.com/minisite.do?content_type=Minisite_Poll_Quiz&amp;amp;content_type_id=1450&amp;amp;display_order=3&amp;amp;mini_id=1082"&gt;quiz&lt;/a&gt; about Ireland.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;The main thing is to put on some green and enjoy the day!&lt;/p&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
