With St. Patrick’s Day looming, my sprouts were really eager to see a few dicey leprechauns for themselves. We’ve been reading about St. Patrick’s Day and how the sneaky leprechauns like to play tricks… after consulting with my Mrs. D. (really, if you don’t have a Mrs. D. I feel sorry for you…) I decided we needed leprechaun ladders to help lure ...

One of the many benefits of teaching kindergarten are the gifts lavished on me. These gifts come early and often. When I taught second grade, I might get a picture here or there. In kindergarten, it’s like my birthday almost everyday. I can’t imagine what I’ll get on my actual birthday…
As I looked over some of the recent gifts in my ...

As I’ve mentioned many times before, I’m not a crafty guy. Somehow they let me teach kindergarten anyway. I decided (recently) that one of my personal goals was going to be more art. This week, I started with my first craft… I figure one project a week is a safe way to ease myself into things.
Our project this week was based on the Letter ...

This afternoon, during Choice Time, Sonya made me a little heart. She took the time to draw, color and cut it out. When she gave it to me, I could tell she was really proud of her work. I gladly accepted her gracious gift and asked if I could give her a hug to thank her. She then asked if she could hold my hand for a minute… I’m not sure what ...

Yesterday was our 100th day of kindergarten. We start kindergarten two days after the rest of the grades at my school so it felt a little extra special having the day all to ourselves. My sprouts have been anxiously awaiting this milestone and the anticipation was palpable Thursday afternoon as they left.
We had lots of fun activities to ...

I hate boxed Valentine's Day cards. It's just a personal pet peeve of mine. I just can't stand how commericalize and impersonal they are. So this year I was thrilled that I managed to convince all three kids (and DH, who is always concerned that the kids will end up doing something so different from everyone else they will end up getting picked ...

Many of you requested to see some examples of the maps my kids made after reading Katy and the Big Snow. Well here are a few of them... I hope the photos capture how wonderful they turned out. Most kids finished them today and they were SUPER proud of their hard work. These went RIGHT up on display.

Wow. This is one book I’d never seen or heard before and my class just ate the whole experience up. My neighboring teacher (I’m working on a post about her… so watch out Mrs. D.) suggested the book to go along with our snow theme. Katy is the story of a little snowplow named Katy who has the immense task of clearing the roads when the town of ...

Valentine's Day Fun Ideas Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
Sugar is sweet,
and so are you. I remember Valentine's Day as being one of my favorite holidays in school. I remember creating mailboxes
out of shoe boxes. Friends would slip cards for you in your box. You can make it special for your students where they will have fun memories ...

One of my quieter little girls came in this morning with a big smile on her face, looked right at me and stated, “I’m happy today.”
“Really? That’s awesome news… why are you so happy?” I asked.
“I get to take my snowman home today,” she replied.
As part of our snow theme this week, we made snowmen out of some Model Magic stuff I ...
