  • What is Computing?

Our S1 pupils are currently making their choices for S2/3. In Computing next year we will be offering a bi-level Intermediate 1 / Intermediate 2 Computing course. I thought the best way to introduce pupils to the subject would be to put together a short movie  highlighting some of the interesting projects we wil be doing [...]

  • Soundz!

In the previous post, I touted the beauty of The Timer and havoc one might wreak with it upon the psyches of sensitive seventh graders. This is just a quick update to that. The link at the end of this post will take you to a directory with my stash of timer sounds. You can go [...]

  • The Timer Redux

This one isn’t exactly a rerun per se…let’s call it more of a rewrite… This year’s crew has been a bit more, shall we say, trying, than any in recent memory. They’re nice enough for seventh graders and all, but they are really frying my bacon this year. So I have to get my kicks where [...]

  • Technology in the classrrom

I am presently working on my master's degree through Walden University.  My present class is on the introduction of wikis, weblogs, and podcasts into the classroom.  While I use technology everyday in my classroom, these three things are not something I have used or am comfortable using. I am wondering if anyone has used these in their ...

  • Mobile Tagging…. Revenge of the Cue Cat’s Spirit!

Hmmm…. I am sure that you have seen either of these two new codes (QR & Microsoft tags/codes explained on Joseph Kim’s blog)especially if you read any current magazines.  UPC codes has been around for awhile and for years, people in marketing has been trying to make it useful for the consumer. In the late 90’s Radio Shack pushed [...]

  • Six dynamic YouTube clips to help teach The Internet

Since my return to teaching 6 months ago, I have been surprised at how little things have really changed  from an ICT perspective. However, one major resource which hadn’t even been invented when I was teaching the first time around is YouTube. Now whenever I start to develop a new lesson or course materials, I always [...]

  • All of the Things That Worked Today.

I tried to think of a happy song for this post. I settled on Lookin' Out My Back Door by Creedence Clearwater Revival, one of my all-time favorite bands. Link to Album at Amazon (only $5.99) It was a good day today. I woke up a little before 6 AM. I know this because the digital alarm clock next to my bed was apparently working, ...

  • How Much Technology Is In Your EFL/ESL/ELD classroom?

I teach in the Silicon Valley in Calfornia.  Technology runs in the blood out here.  However, there are still many teachers who shy away from it.  How much technology do you use in your classroom and how comfortable do you feel using it? Thanks.Denise

  • connecting

''What is one item of technology that the world would be better off without?'' I ask one morning for Bell Work.  It feels like a soft ball question, but a few students struggle with it.   ''Let's get to work,'' I implore two boys.   ''I'm sorry, I'm thinking,'' one answers.   ''I'm sorry.  Go ahead and think.  Sometimes I confuse the two. ...

  • five thoughts on Twitter

I have been on Twitter for awhile now.  I've wanted to write a blog post about it, but my thoughts range so much that I thought I would share some random musings: There is no sense of permanence or posterity.  There is also little sense of who has read my tweets.  This can make it feel like I am a crazy man wandering a city street. It's much ...
