I am currently completing a master's degree in moderate special needs. This has been a career change for me. I used to be a successful technology project manager but after 9/11, my department was let go. I sold my condo and used my severence to go back to school. I had always said I would go back to teaching (that's what my bachelor's degree is in) when I got married. Well, I was 35 and not married so I figured this was my best opportunity. I became certified in elementary education and taught 1st grade for awhile until it became clear that I really enjoyed working with students with exceptionalities. So I started substituting and going to school It's been quite a journey!
The funny part of it all is, once I followed my heart and started teaching, I met my husband! We were married last spring. We are older so we are just beginning the journey towards building a family. I'm hoping to have a child by the time I finish my degree.
I would love to hear from any other career changers that might be out there.
