cricketcornerteach's Personal Bio

I am a preschool special education teacher. I have been teaching for 10 years- several years with Head Start, several years as a toddler classroom teacher and the last 4 years in a special education preschool classroom. I LOVE our preschool program and the opportunities we are able to offer the children. I love learning new ways of teaching, learning about new assistive technology for children with special needs and new ways of increasing children's communication skills. I feel independence for all children is important. We work incredibly hard to provide the children with the tools they need to participate to their fullest capability in the preschool experience. Much of our school day looks exactly like a typicallly developing preschool child's school day. We love center work, outdoor play, small groups, large groups and circle time! We enjoy a good deal of the day with children from an integrated (children with and without special needs) preschool classroom. I am always looking for new and innovative ways to enhance the children's preschool experience- including integrating whenever possible and "reverse integrating" (having typically develping peers join us in our preschool classroom) when the children need a smaller group setting. I have worked with children with a wide variety of special needs and am continually learning and growing in my teaching. Each child brings with him/her a unique set of skills, challenges and strengths. I love teaching because it challenges me to constantly learn and grow!
